Weaving

My training is in Fine Art specialising in Painting, and i'd never really explored textiles before. Ive always been interested in old traditions, weaving in particular and since receiving a wooden loom as a gift three years ago, I haven't really stopped making!

I love colours whether bold and contrasting or more subtle natural colours like soft pastel tones. I also love experimenting with different techniques creating different textures.

I am mostly inspired by the Bauhaus design movement, and weavers such as Anni Albers but also look to contemporary artists and weaving methods. There is so much inspiration out there, ideas and processes continually evolve however I have a lot of respect for old traditions. Handcrafted pieces have something special. They're not only unique, but I think a lot of heart goes through the process into the work.

There is a freedom to my process. I rarely know exactly where I'm heading with a piece before starting. I kind of let the process guide me. Weaving is therapeutic, Its very mindful. There is a joy in making. I definitely find my peace here.
